When the freezer sensor goes open or short, the control board loses its measurement of the compartment and has to fall back on a default pattern — which is why a machine with this code often still cools, just badly and at the wrong times. It is a small part on a two-wire harness and the repair is not a large one. What makes it worth doing promptly is that a cabinet running blind will happily freeze the fresh food side or let the freezer creep, and neither shows up until something has thawed.

Where this appears, and why not to clear it
On the appliance's own display. LG reports errors two ways: machines with a digital display show a code, and the laundry machines without one blink their indicator lights instead. Both are published by the maker and both are on this site. Photograph what the panel shows before cutting the power. On a refrigerator you can also force the last code back onto the display by holding Freezer Temperature and Express Frz together for three seconds — LG documents that, and it is the one thing that makes a first visit more useful. A code that has been reset is information a technician no longer has.
What to do about it
- Write down the exact code, including the letter in front of it. On a two-evaporator cabinet the prefix says which side is being reported.
- Cut the power for five minutes. A sensor code that clears and returns is still a sensor code.
- Do not judge the machine by the display temperature while this code is showing — that number is coming from the sensor that is being complained about.
- Put a thermometer in the compartment so the visit starts with a real number.
