What we can confirm
Code rF, from the manufacturer's own documentation
A code is only meaningful together with the machine showing it — the same digits mean different things on different equipment.
The code
rF
On the cabinets that cool each compartment separately, the refrigerator side has a fan of its own, and this code is that fan. The symptom is a fresh food compartment drifting warm while the freezer stays perfectly hard — the combination that makes people think the machine has lost its gas when it has not. As with the freezer fan, the honest first suspect is ice rather than the motor, and after that a blade fouled by something in the compartment or a duct blocked with food pushed too far back.

What else belongs to the refrigerators
On this make a code belongs to the appliance rather than to a product line. These are the other conditions this machine can display, and the models that can show this one — a display often has more than one thing to say, and the model number decides what any of it costs to put right.
Other codes this appliance can display
The fan over the condenser has stopped turning, and the machine has noticed
The fan that moves cold around the freezer is not turning
The sensor reporting the freezer temperature is not making sense
The fresh food compartment's own sensor is not reporting properly
The sensor that decides when to melt the ice off the coil has failed
The machine cannot read the temperature of the room it is standing in
The fan that carries cold to the ice maker has stopped
The ice maker cannot tell whether the cubes are frozen yet
The ice maker's own motor is not turning the harvest
The internal water tank is missing or not seated
The main board and the display have stopped talking to each other
The refrigerator has found something wrong inside itself and wants a technician

About Refrigerator error code rF
What rF means on this make
On the cabinets that cool each compartment separately, the refrigerator side has a fan of its own, and this code is that fan. The symptom is a fresh food compartment drifting warm while the freezer stays perfectly hard — the combination that makes people think the machine has lost its gas when it has not. The other ways LG prints this one
rF · Er rF · r rF
LG publishes a condition and then every string that can stand for it, and which one your machine shows depends on the panel it was built with — OE, E03 and E21 are one condition on a washer, and Er dS, F dS and r dS are one sensor on different evaporators. They are one page here, so whichever of them you searched for, this is the right page.
Where this appears, and why not to clear it
On the appliance's own display. LG reports errors two ways: machines with a digital display show a code, and the laundry machines without one blink their indicator lights instead. Both are published by the maker and both are on this site. Photograph what the panel shows before cutting the power. On a refrigerator you can also force the last code back onto the display by holding Freezer Temperature and Express Frz together for three seconds — LG documents that, and it is the one thing that makes a first visit more useful. A code that has been reset is information a technician no longer has.
What to do about it
- Check the vents in the back wall of the fresh food compartment are not buried under food.
- Hold the door switch in and listen for the fan. Silence with the compressor running is the case that needs a visit.
- Look for frost around the vents, which means the cold is arriving and not being moved.
- Do not raise the thermostat to compensate. It makes the compartment colder in one spot and no better anywhere else.
Where this goes next
The job this usually becomes is evaporator fan repair, and that page carries a starting figure and the reasons that move it. If it turns out to be nothing — and on this make a real share of these are modes, reminders and settings rather than problems — the visit ends there and you pay the diagnostic and nothing else, or call (305) 419-0291 and describe what the panel is doing before booking anything.
