Error code

Refrigerator error code Er

LG refrigerator error code Er: LG groups a long list of codes — Od, Sd, CI, IU, dH, d1, d2, d, H1, H2, F1, F2, US, LS, E1, E2, r, Id, gS and gF — under one instruction, because they all mean the same thing to the person standing in the kitchen: the refrigerator has found something wrong inside itself, in a component, a control circuit or a connection, and it wants a technician rather than an adjustment. Every spelling LG publishes for it, which machines can raise it, and what to do next.

What we can confirm

Code Er, from the manufacturer's own documentation

A code is only meaningful together with the machine showing it — the same digits mean different things on different equipment.

The code

Er

LG groups a long list of codes — Od, Sd, CI, IU, dH, d1, d2, d, H1, H2, F1, F2, US, LS, E1, E2, r, Id, gS and gF — under one instruction, because they all mean the same thing to the person standing in the kitchen: the refrigerator has found something wrong inside itself, in a component, a control circuit or a connection, and it wants a technician rather than an adjustment. LG's own guidance for all of them is identical and it is short: reset the machine, and if the code stays, call. The dH, d1, d2, d, H1 and H2 group is the one worth singling out — those concern ice on the cooling plate, and LG notes the machine may run normally once that ice is gone.

What else belongs to the refrigerators

On this make a code belongs to the appliance rather than to a product line. These are the other conditions this machine can display, and the models that can show this one — a display often has more than one thing to say, and the model number decides what any of it costs to put right.

Other codes this appliance can display

The fan over the condenser has stopped turning, and the machine has noticed

The fan that moves cold around the freezer is not turning

The fan feeding the fresh food side has stopped

The sensor reporting the freezer temperature is not making sense

The fresh food compartment's own sensor is not reporting properly

The sensor that decides when to melt the ice off the coil has failed

The machine cannot read the temperature of the room it is standing in

The fan that carries cold to the ice maker has stopped

The ice maker cannot tell whether the cubes are frozen yet

The ice maker's own motor is not turning the harvest

The internal water tank is missing or not seated

The main board and the display have stopped talking to each other

About Refrigerator error code Er

What Er means on this make

LG groups a long list of codes — Od, Sd, CI, IU, dH, d1, d2, d, H1, H2, F1, F2, US, LS, E1, E2, r, Id, gS and gF — under one instruction, because they all mean the same thing to the person standing in the kitchen: the refrigerator has found something wrong inside itself, in a component, a control circuit or a connection, and it wants a technician rather than an adjustment. LG publishes a condition and then every string that can stand for it, and which one your machine shows depends on the panel it was built with — OE, E03 and E21 are one condition on a washer, and Er dS, F dS and r dS are one sensor on different evaporators. They are one page here, so whichever of them you searched for, this is the right page.

Where this appears, and why not to clear it

On the appliance's own display. LG reports errors two ways: machines with a digital display show a code, and the laundry machines without one blink their indicator lights instead. Both are published by the maker and both are on this site. Photograph what the panel shows before cutting the power. On a refrigerator you can also force the last code back onto the display by holding Freezer Temperature and Express Frz together for three seconds — LG documents that, and it is the one thing that makes a first visit more useful. A code that has been reset is information a technician no longer has.

What to do about it

  1. Write down the exact string, both characters and the prefix. It is what the visit starts from.
  2. Unplug the refrigerator, wait five minutes, plug it back in — into the wall, not a power strip.
  3. If the code has gone and does not return in a day, it was a power or communication event and nothing is broken.
  4. If it returns, minimize use and book. LG's own warning is not to open the machine up: the parts behind that panel are not homeowner parts.

Where this goes next

The job this usually becomes is diagnostic visit, and that page carries a starting figure and the reasons that move it. If it turns out to be nothing — and on this make a real share of these are modes, reminders and settings rather than problems — the visit ends there and you pay the diagnostic and nothing else, or call (305) 419-0291 and describe what the panel is doing before booking anything.
