LG’s US catalog has no standalone upright freezer in it and no undercounter ice machine — the only ice-maker products it sells are the automatic ice maker kits that go inside a refrigerator. So the freezer here is the bottom drawer of a French door and the ice maker is the unit in the door or the freezer, which is exactly where LG’s own FF, FS, dS, IF, IS and It codes live. Those pages are written about the object people actually call about rather than a machine LG does not make. The wine cellar is one machine, an LG SIGNATURE, and the page says so.
12 appliances · 61 models
Everything LG builds for a home, and what goes wrong with each of it here.
Three hundred and forty-seven refrigerators, three hundred and ninety-seven cooking appliances, a hundred and eight dishwashers and two hundred and twenty-two laundry machines are in LG's US catalog. This is what each of them is, and what we are called out for.

Twelve cards
Each one says what the appliance is on this make, what tends to go wrong with it here, and which of LG's codes belong to it.
-
French door · side-by-side · top freezer · bottom freezer · InstaView · Craft Ice LG refrigerator
Three hundred and forty-seven of them are in LG's US catalog, which makes this the biggest part of what the badge sells and the biggest part of what we are called out for. LG is also the make that tells you most about itself when something goes wrong: the refrigerator carries a published code for the condenser fan, the freezer fan, the refrigerator fan, three separate sensors and the ice maker, and you can force it to show you the last one by holding two buttons. In a South Florida kitchen most of the calls are not the sealed system. They are ice, water, a fan that iced up behind the back wall, or a door that stopped sealing in air that is wet nine months of the year.
- French door, side-by-side, top freezer and bottom freezer, plus InstaView doors
- Er CF, CO, FF, FS, IF, IS, It, dS, rS and rT are published, with meanings
- Linear and Inverter Linear compressors, and the long compressor warranty behind them
-
The freezer side of a French door, a bottom freezer or a side-by-side LG freezer
LG does not sell a standalone upright freezer in this country — its freezers are the compartment: the bottom drawer of a French door, the bottom of a bottom-freezer cabinet, the tall left side of a side-by-side, or the top of a top-freezer. That is worth saying plainly, because it decides what a failure means. A freezer that is not holding on an LG is a refrigerator failure with its own published codes — FF for the freezer fan, FS for the freezer sensor, dS for the defrost sensor — and the compartment beside it is usually the evidence.
- The freezer is a compartment on this make, not a separate machine
- FF, FS and dS are published codes and each names a different part
- Frost on the back wall is a symptom of defrost, not of the door
-
In-door and in-freezer ice makers, Craft Ice, and the automatic ice maker kits LG ice maker
LG does not sell an undercounter ice machine in this country. Its ice makers live inside the refrigerator — in the door, in the freezer compartment, or as the second unit that makes the round Craft Ice — and its accessory catalog carries automatic ice maker kits for cabinets that shipped without one. That is where the calls come from, and LG publishes three codes for it: IF for the ice maker fan, IS for its temperature sensor and It for its motor. Ice is the single most common thing we are asked about on this badge, and it is rarely the ice maker.
- Ice makers in the door, in the freezer, and the second unit that makes Craft Ice
- IF, IS and It are published — fan, sensor and motor, each named
- A filter change and a slow fill line explain most of the no-ice calls
-
The LG SIGNATURE wine cellar, and the wine storage inside a four-door cabinet LG wine cooler
This is the narrowest page on the site, and it should be: LG's US catalog lists one wine cellar, a SIGNATURE machine, alongside the wine storage built into some of its four-door refrigerators. A wine cabinet is a refrigerator with a much narrower brief — it holds a temperature band rather than a temperature, and it is judged on how still it keeps the bottle as much as how cold. The failures follow from that: compressor cycling, a door seal, a fan, and the sensors that decide when any of it runs.
- One SIGNATURE wine cellar in the catalog, plus in-cabinet wine storage
- Judged on a stable band and on vibration, not on how cold it gets
- The same sensors and fans as the refrigerators, with tighter tolerances
-
Front control · top control · QuadWash · TrueSteam · Inverter Direct Drive LG dishwasher
A hundred and eight in LG's current catalog, and the best-documented dishwasher on this fleet: LG publishes thirteen codes for it and names the part behind each one — inlet, outlet, temperature sensor, heater, wash motor, water level sensor, the bubble error, the vario pump and three separate errors in the heat-dry system. The two calls we take most are the two the codes describe: it will not drain, and it is not getting things clean.
- Front control and top control, QuadWash arms and TrueSteam
- Thirteen published codes, each naming its own part
- Inverter Direct Drive motors, which are quiet and are not silent
-
Front load · top load · WashTower · WashCombo · SideKick pedestal LG washer
The laundry side of this badge is the busiest on the site, and LG sells more shapes of it than anyone: front load, top load with no agitator, the WashTower with both machines behind one control panel, the all-in-one WashCombo that washes and dries in one drum, and the SideKick pedestal washer that lives under the main machine. Two hundred and twenty-two laundry machines in the catalog between washers and dryers. LG publishes a separate code list for each shape, and the codes do not all mean the same thing across them.
- Front load, top load, WashTower, WashCombo and the SideKick pedestal
- Around twenty published codes, and a blinking-light set for machines with no display
- Direct Drive motors: fewer parts to fail, and a different failure when they do
-
Electric · gas · ventless heat pump · WashTower · the SideKick pair LG dryer
Sixty-eight dryers in the catalog, in three quite different kinds: vented electric, vented gas, and the ventless heat pump machines that condense the water into a drawer instead of pushing it outside. That last group changes what a repair is — there is no duct to blame, and the two things that fail are the condenser block and the drain the water leaves by. LG publishes codes for all of it, including the thermistor set tE1 to tE6 and the drn/OE pair that only exists on a machine with a water container.
- Vented electric, vented gas, and ventless heat pump machines
- tE1–tE6 thermistors, nP at the heater, drn/OE on the condensate drain
- On vented machines the duct is the first suspect and usually the answer
-
Electric · gas · dual fuel · induction · slide-in and freestanding · ProBake · InstaView LG range
LG's cooking catalog runs to 397 products and the ranges are the center of it: LRE for electric, LRG for gas, with slide-in and freestanding cabinets, induction tops, ProBake convection that moves the element to the back wall, and InstaView doors you knock on to light. The published code list is the F-series, and it is more useful than most because the numbers separate the upper oven from the lower one and the oven from the cooktop.
- Electric, gas, dual fuel and induction, slide-in and freestanding
- F1 to F34 published, and the number says which cavity and which part
- ProBake convection, Air Fry, and InstaView on the doors
-
Single · double · combination microwave wall ovens · LG STUDIO LG wall oven
The built-in half of LG's cooking line: single wall ovens, double stacks, and the combination cabinets with a microwave above and a full oven below, with LG STUDIO carrying the higher-finish versions. They share their control board and their failure codes with the ranges, which is genuinely useful — the F-numbers say which cavity, so on a double oven the code tells you whether the top or the bottom is the problem before anybody opens anything.
- Single, double and microwave-combination wall ovens, plus LG STUDIO
- The same F-code list as the ranges, and the number names the cavity
- Built-in work: the cabinet, the circuit and the clearances are part of the job
-
Induction · radiant electric · gas · 30 and 36 inch LG cooktop
The drop-in half of the cooking line — LCE and its neighbors — in induction, radiant electric and gas, at thirty and thirty-six inches. Induction is where LG has put its effort, and it changes what a failure is: an induction top has no element to fail, it has coils, a board and a temperature sensor per burner, and the codes reflect that. F33 and F34 are front induction burner temperature sensors and exist on nothing else in the range.
- Induction, radiant electric and gas, at 30 and 36 inches
- F33 and F34 are induction burner sensors; H5 is a hot-surface indicator, not an error
- On glass tops, a spill under the panel is a real and common cause
-
Over-the-range · countertop · built-in · NeoChef · the microwave half of a combi oven LG microwave
LG's microwaves run from countertop NeoChef machines to over-the-range units that double as the hood over the cooktop, to the microwave cavity in a combination wall oven. The over-the-range machines carry most of the calls, and about half of those calls are not the microwave: a machine that vents into a kitchen instead of outside, a charcoal filter nobody has changed, or a damper flap that has stopped opening.
- Over-the-range, countertop, built-in, and the cavity in a combi wall oven
- The over-the-range machines are also the ventilation, and are serviced as both
- A machine that runs and does not heat is a specific failure, not a vague one
-
Wall-mount chimney hoods, and the over-the-range microwaves that do the same job LG range hood
LG's dedicated hoods are the wall-mount chimney units, and alongside them a great many LG kitchens in this city are ventilated by an over-the-range microwave doing the same job. The failures are shared and so is the misunderstanding behind most of the calls: a hood that seems not to work is very often a hood that is recirculating exactly as it was installed to, through a filter that has not been changed since it was.
- Wall-mount chimney hoods, plus the over-the-range microwaves that ventilate
- Ducted or recirculating — which one it is decides what a fix means
- Baffle and charcoal filters are maintenance and are the first thing to check
Three of these are compartments, not machines
The freezer, the ice maker, and one wine cellar
The argument LG makes for itself
Direct Drive, linear compressors, and what they change
Two pieces of engineering run through this catalog and both change what a repair is. On laundry, Direct Drive couples the motor straight to the drum: no belt, no pulley, far fewer small failures, and a larger job on the rare occasion the drive goes. On refrigeration, the linear compressor carries a long parts warranty that follows the machine rather than the owner — so a sealed-system quote on a covered cabinet is a very different number, and we establish that before quoting rather than after.
Before you book
Two things worth having ready
None of them are unusual here, and all three are cheaper to prevent than to repair.
The model number, off the appliance
- Refrigerators: inside, on the left wall of the fresh food compartment.
- Washers and dryers: inside the door opening, or on the back panel.
- Ranges and wall ovens: on the frame behind the door, or under the cooktop.
- Dishwashers: on the edge of the door, visible when it is open.
What the machine is reporting
- A code on the display, written down exactly — including the letter in front of it.
- On a refrigerator, hold Freezer Temperature and Express Frz together for three seconds to bring the last code back.
- On a laundry machine with no numbers, count a full blink sequence and photograph it.
- Do not cut the power first. A code that has been reset is information nobody has.

Worth knowing
The compartment next door is an instrument
On this make the freezer is part of the refrigerator, which turns out to be useful. A freezer that is failing while the fresh food side holds says something quite different from both of them drifting together — and on the cabinets with two evaporators LG puts that difference into the code prefix itself. Reading the other compartment is free and it is the first thing worth doing.

Questions about the equipment
Do you work on every LG appliance?
Everything on this page: refrigeration, freezers, ice makers, the wine cellar, dishwashers, washers, dryers, ranges, wall ovens, cooktops, microwaves and range hoods. What we do not do is televisions and air conditioning, which LG also makes and which are a different trade.
Is a built-in harder than a freestanding machine?
Sometimes, and it is fair to say why. Everything electrical and thermal is the same. What differs is access — a wall oven is screwed into joinery and has to come out on a stand before its back is reachable — and that is why the same repair is a different figure on a range and on a wall oven.
How old is too old?
It depends on the part rather than the year. An element, an igniter, a pump or a door lock is worth doing on a machine well into its second decade. A sealed system or a control board on a fifteen-year-old cabinet is a conversation, and we will have it before the work rather than after.
In more detail
What LG actually sells in this country
Counted, not estimated
LG’s US catalog carries 347 refrigerators, 397 cooking appliances, 108 dishwashers and 222 laundry machines. The model prefixes are worth learning if you own one: LFXS, LFX, LSXS and LMXS on refrigeration; LRE and LRG on electric and gas ranges; LDE and LDG on double ovens; DLEX and DLGX on dryers; WM and WT on washers; LDT and LDF on dishwashers; LCE on cooktops and HCED on hoods.
What the catalog does not have
No standalone freezer, no undercounter ice machine, and one wine cellar. That is not a gap in this site — it is what the make sells, and the pages for those three are written about the compartment rather than about a machine that does not exist.
Tell us the appliance and the model number.
With those two we can usually say what is likely before anybody sets off, and bring the part rather than come back for it.
