Error code
Refrigerator error code dS
LG refrigerator error code dS: A refrigerator has to stop and melt its own evaporator every few hours, and this sensor is what tells it when the coil is cold enough to need it and warm enough to stop. Every spelling LG publishes for it, which machines can raise it, and what to do next.

What we can confirm
Code dS, from the manufacturer's own documentation
A code is only meaningful together with the machine showing it — the same digits mean different things on different equipment.
The code
dS
A refrigerator has to stop and melt its own evaporator every few hours, and this sensor is what tells it when the coil is cold enough to need it and warm enough to stop. When the sensor goes, the machine either never defrosts — and slowly seals its own airway in ice — or defrosts when it should be cooling. The first is far more common and it is the classic slow failure in this climate: three weeks of a freezer that is fine, then a fresh food compartment that will not hold, then a wall of frost behind the back panel. The prefix matters on this code more than on any other. LG uses Er dS for a single-evaporator cabinet, F dS for the freezer coil of a two-evaporator one, and r dS for the refrigerator coil.

What else belongs to the refrigerators
On this make a code belongs to the appliance rather than to a product line. These are the other conditions this machine can display, and the models that can show this one — a display often has more than one thing to say, and the model number decides what any of it costs to put right.
Other codes this appliance can display
The fan over the condenser has stopped turning, and the machine has noticed
The fan that moves cold around the freezer is not turning
The fan feeding the fresh food side has stopped
The sensor reporting the freezer temperature is not making sense
The fresh food compartment's own sensor is not reporting properly
The machine cannot read the temperature of the room it is standing in
The fan that carries cold to the ice maker has stopped
The ice maker cannot tell whether the cubes are frozen yet
The ice maker's own motor is not turning the harvest
The internal water tank is missing or not seated
The main board and the display have stopped talking to each other
The refrigerator has found something wrong inside itself and wants a technician

About Refrigerator error code dS
What dS means on this make
A refrigerator has to stop and melt its own evaporator every few hours, and this sensor is what tells it when the coil is cold enough to need it and warm enough to stop.
The other ways LG prints this one
dS · Er dS · F dS · r dS
LG publishes a condition and then every string that can stand for it, and which one your machine shows depends on the panel it was built with — OE, E03 and E21 are one condition on a washer, and Er dS, F dS and r dS are one sensor on different evaporators. They are one page here, so whichever of them you searched for, this is the right page.
Where this appears, and why not to clear it
On the appliance's own display. LG reports errors two ways: machines with a digital display show a code, and the laundry machines without one blink their indicator lights instead. Both are published by the maker and both are on this site. Photograph what the panel shows before cutting the power. On a refrigerator you can also force the last code back onto the display by holding Freezer Temperature and Express Frz together for three seconds — LG documents that, and it is the one thing that makes a first visit more useful. A code that has been reset is information a technician no longer has.
What to do about it
- Write the code down exactly as shown, prefix included. It names which coil.
- Look behind the back panel of the freezer if you can see through the vents. Frost across the coil confirms it.
- Do not chip at the ice. The coil is aluminum and its tubing is thin.
- Empty what you can into a cooler and book the visit — this one does not recover on its own.
Where this goes next
The job this usually becomes is defrost system repair, and that page carries a starting figure and the reasons that move it. If it turns out to be nothing — and on this make a real share of these are modes, reminders and settings rather than problems — the visit ends there and you pay the diagnostic and nothing else, or call (305) 419-0291 and describe what the panel is doing before booking anything.
