What we can confirm

Code F27, from the manufacturer's own documentation

A code is only meaningful together with the machine showing it — the same digits mean different things on different equipment.

The code

F27

This is the one on the cooking list to stop using the oven over. Self clean takes the cavity far above cooking temperature and the only thing protecting the cabinetry, the controls and the wall behind it is a cooling fan moving air through the shell. If that fan stalls, the heat has nowhere to go. LG's instruction is to cut the breaker, and that is the right instruction: do not restart a self clean to see whether it happens again.

What it narrows down to

The fan that keeps the surrounding cabinet cool has stopped while the oven was at its hottest

What else belongs to the ranges

On this make a code belongs to the appliance rather than to a product line. These are the other conditions this machine can display, and the models that can show this one — a display often has more than one thing to say, and the model number decides what any of it costs to put right.

Other codes this appliance can display

The sensor measuring the main oven cavity has gone out of range

The same sensor problem, in the lower cavity

The cavity is not reaching or holding the temperature it was set to

The motorized lock has not reported that it did what it was told

The control and the display are not talking

The oven has rejected its temperature sensor's reading

The fan that moves air around the cavity is not turning

The temperature probe socket is reporting a problem

The steam system's own sensing has failed

The touch controls are reporting a key that is stuck or wet

An induction zone cannot measure its own temperature

Not an error — the glass is above 150°F and the cooktop is saying so

About Range error code F27

What F27 means on this make

This is the one on the cooking list to stop using the oven over. Self clean takes the cavity far above cooking temperature and the only thing protecting the cabinetry, the controls and the wall behind it is a cooling fan moving air through the shell. If that fan stalls, the heat has nowhere to go. LG's instruction is to cut the breaker, and that is the right instruction: do not restart a self clean to see whether it happens again.

Where this appears, and why not to clear it

On the appliance's own display. LG reports errors two ways: machines with a digital display show a code, and the laundry machines without one blink their indicator lights instead. Both are published by the maker and both are on this site. Photograph what the panel shows before cutting the power. On a refrigerator you can also force the last code back onto the display by holding Freezer Temperature and Express Frz together for three seconds — LG documents that, and it is the one thing that makes a first visit more useful. A code that has been reset is information a technician no longer has.

What to do about it

  1. Turn the breaker for the appliance off. Leave it off until the oven is cold.
  2. Do not run another self clean until it has been looked at.
  3. Use the oven for normal cooking only if it will run without the code, and clean it by hand meanwhile.
  4. Book it promptly. This one is a safety repair rather than a convenience one.

Where this goes next

The job this usually becomes is diagnostic visit, and that page carries a starting figure and the reasons that move it. If it turns out to be nothing — and on this make a real share of these are modes, reminders and settings rather than problems — the visit ends there and you pay the diagnostic and nothing else, or call (305) 419-0291 and describe what the panel is doing before booking anything.
