Dryer error code tE1
LG dryer error code tE1: A dryer's whole safety case rests on knowing how hot it is, so a thermistor that reads open or short stops the machine rather than letting it run blind. Every spelling LG publishes for it, which machines can raise it, and what to do next.

What we can confirm
Code tE1, from the manufacturer's own documentation
A code is only meaningful together with the machine showing it — the same digits mean different things on different equipment.
The code
tE1
A dryer's whole safety case rests on knowing how hot it is, so a thermistor that reads open or short stops the machine rather than letting it run blind. LG numbers them tE1 through tE6 because there is more than one sensor in the airflow — inlet, outlet and, on the heat pump machines, the loop as well — and the number narrows where to look. LG's published reset is worth doing first because it genuinely clears the intermittent ones: power off, hold start/pause for five seconds with the power off, restore power.

What else belongs to the dryers
On this make a code belongs to the appliance rather than to a product line. These are the other conditions this machine can display, and the models that can show this one — a display often has more than one thing to say, and the model number decides what any of it costs to put right.
Other codes this appliance can display
The cycle was interrupted by the power going away
Not an error — the panel is locked
The machine has no numbers to show you, so it reports by which lights blink
The machine is tumbling but no power is reaching the heat
The machine cannot confirm the door is closed
The drum is not turning when the machine asks it to
The machine is measuring how blocked its own exhaust is, and reporting a percentage
A ventless dryer cannot get rid of the water it has taken out of the load
The sensor that decides when the load is dry is not reporting
A machine with a steam cycle cannot get the water it needs
The dryer reports by which indicator lights blink rather than by a number

About Dryer error code tE1
What tE1 means on this make
A dryer's whole safety case rests on knowing how hot it is, so a thermistor that reads open or short stops the machine rather than letting it run blind.
The other ways LG prints this one
tE1 · tE2 · tE3 · tE4 · tE5 · tE6 · tE
LG publishes a condition and then every string that can stand for it, and which one your machine shows depends on the panel it was built with — OE, E03 and E21 are one condition on a washer, and Er dS, F dS and r dS are one sensor on different evaporators. They are one page here, so whichever of them you searched for, this is the right page.
Where this appears, and why not to clear it
On the appliance's own display. LG reports errors two ways: machines with a digital display show a code, and the laundry machines without one blink their indicator lights instead. Both are published by the maker and both are on this site. Photograph what the panel shows before cutting the power. On a refrigerator you can also force the last code back onto the display by holding Freezer Temperature and Express Frz together for three seconds — LG documents that, and it is the one thing that makes a first visit more useful. A code that has been reset is information a technician no longer has.
What to do about it
- Clean the lint screen and check the duct. A restricted dryer overheats and reports sensors.
- Unplug the machine or trip its breaker, hold START/PAUSE for five seconds, then restore power.
- Run a short cycle and see whether it returns.
- Note the exact number — tE1 and tE4 are not the same sensor.
Where this goes next
The job this usually becomes is diagnostic visit, and that page carries a starting figure and the reasons that move it. If it turns out to be nothing — and on this make a real share of these are modes, reminders and settings rather than problems — the visit ends there and you pay the diagnostic and nothing else, or call (305) 419-0291 and describe what the panel is doing before booking anything.
