What we can confirm

Code LE, from the manufacturer's own documentation

A code is only meaningful together with the machine showing it — the same digits mean different things on different equipment.

The code

LE

LG's Direct Drive motor is bolted straight to the drum, which removes the belt and most of what used to fail on a washing machine — and changes what this code means when it appears. The machine has asked the drum to turn and the drum has not. An overloaded machine will do it; so will something wedged between drum and tub, which is the classic underwire that got out of a bra. LG's published first step is to let it rest for half an hour and try again, because a motor that has simply got hot needs nothing else.

What else belongs to the washers

On this make a code belongs to the appliance rather than to a product line. These are the other conditions this machine can display, and the models that can show this one — a display often has more than one thing to say, and the model number decides what any of it costs to put right.

Other codes this appliance can display

The machine has finished washing and cannot get rid of the water

The machine is not filling, or is filling too slowly to finish in time

The drum cannot spin the load safely because it is on one side

The machine cannot prove the door is shut, so it will not start or will not open

The machine cannot measure how much water is in the drum

The cycle was interrupted by the power going away

The machine cannot read the water temperature

The machine has found more suds than it can spin through, and is adding a rinse

The machine believes water in it has frozen

Not an error — the machine has counted enough loads to want cleaning

Not an error — the panel is locked

The clutch that couples the motor to the drum is not engaging

About Washer error code LE

What LE means on this make

The other ways LG prints this one

LE · LE1 · 1E1

LG publishes a condition and then every string that can stand for it, and which one your machine shows depends on the panel it was built with — OE, E03 and E21 are one condition on a washer, and Er dS, F dS and r dS are one sensor on different evaporators. They are one page here, so whichever of them you searched for, this is the right page.

Where this appears, and why not to clear it

On the appliance's own display. LG reports errors two ways: machines with a digital display show a code, and the laundry machines without one blink their indicator lights instead. Both are published by the maker and both are on this site. Photograph what the panel shows before cutting the power. On a refrigerator you can also force the last code back onto the display by holding Freezer Temperature and Express Frz together for three seconds — LG documents that, and it is the one thing that makes a first visit more useful. A code that has been reset is information a technician no longer has.

What to do about it

  1. Take half the load out and try again. Overloading is the leading cause.
  2. Let the machine stand for thirty minutes with the power off before retrying.
  3. Turn the empty drum by hand. Grinding, or a hard stop, means something is between drum and tub.
  4. If it recurs on light loads, book it — a stalled Direct Drive motor is not a wait-and-see.

Where this goes next

The job this usually becomes is diagnostic visit, and that page carries a starting figure and the reasons that move it. If it turns out to be nothing — and on this make a real share of these are modes, reminders and settings rather than problems — the visit ends there and you pay the diagnostic and nothing else, or call (305) 419-0291 and describe what the panel is doing before booking anything.
