What we can confirm

Code UE, from the manufacturer's own documentation

A code is only meaningful together with the machine showing it — the same digits mean different things on different equipment.

The code

UE

This is the code people meet most and worry about least correctly. The machine tries three times on its own — adding water, redistributing, trying again — before it gives up and shows you anything, so by the time you see UE it has already done everything it can. A single bath sheet, a load too small to spread, or a mixed load of heavy and light items all produce it. What turns it from a nuisance into a repair is when it happens on ordinary, fair loads: then the machine is out of level or the suspension has softened, and neither improves.

What it narrows down to

The drum cannot spin the load safely because it is on one side

What else belongs to the washers

On this make a code belongs to the appliance rather than to a product line. These are the other conditions this machine can display, and the models that can show this one — a display often has more than one thing to say, and the model number decides what any of it costs to put right.

Other codes this appliance can display

The machine has finished washing and cannot get rid of the water

The machine is not filling, or is filling too slowly to finish in time

The machine cannot prove the door is shut, so it will not start or will not open

The motor is overloaded or cannot turn

The machine cannot measure how much water is in the drum

The cycle was interrupted by the power going away

The machine cannot read the water temperature

The machine has found more suds than it can spin through, and is adding a rinse

The machine believes water in it has frozen

Not an error — the machine has counted enough loads to want cleaning

Not an error — the panel is locked

The clutch that couples the motor to the drum is not engaging

About Washer error code UE

What UE means on this make

This is the code people meet most and worry about least correctly. The machine tries three times on its own — adding water, redistributing, trying again — before it gives up and shows you anything, so by the time you see UE it has already done everything it can. A single bath sheet, a load too small to spread, or a mixed load of heavy and light items all produce it. What turns it from a nuisance into a repair is when it happens on ordinary, fair loads: then the machine is out of level or the suspension has softened, and neither improves.

The other ways LG prints this one

UE · uE · Ub · UB

LG publishes a condition and then every string that can stand for it, and which one your machine shows depends on the panel it was built with — OE, E03 and E21 are one condition on a washer, and Er dS, F dS and r dS are one sensor on different evaporators. They are one page here, so whichever of them you searched for, this is the right page.

Where this appears, and why not to clear it

On the appliance's own display. LG reports errors two ways: machines with a digital display show a code, and the laundry machines without one blink their indicator lights instead. Both are published by the maker and both are on this site. Photograph what the panel shows before cutting the power. On a refrigerator you can also force the last code back onto the display by holding Freezer Temperature and Express Frz together for three seconds — LG documents that, and it is the one thing that makes a first visit more useful. A code that has been reset is information a technician no longer has.

What to do about it

  1. Open the door and spread the load by hand around the drum, then close and press start.
  2. If the load is one heavy item, add a couple of towels to give it something to balance against.
  3. Check the machine does not rock. Push each corner in turn; all four feet should be down.
  4. If a fair load does it every time, book it — the dampers or the feet are the repair.

Where this goes next

The job this usually becomes is diagnostic visit, and that page carries a starting figure and the reasons that move it. If it turns out to be nothing — and on this make a real share of these are modes, reminders and settings rather than problems — the visit ends there and you pay the diagnostic and nothing else, or call (305) 419-0291 and describe what the panel is doing before booking anything.
