LG dryer vent cleaning

The single most valuable thing that can be done to a vented dryer in this city, and LG makes the case itself: it measures the restriction in its own duct and reports it as d80, d90 or d95. A restricted dryer is not just slow. It is running hotter than it was designed to with lint packed into the run.

The same order every time, so nothing is opened and nothing is charged before you have seen the figure and said yes.

  1. 01

Read the number if there is one

d80, d90 and d95 are increasing degrees of blocked and they are worth acting on the first time.

  2. 02

Clean the screen and its housing

Both. The slot the screen sits in collects as much as the screen does.

  3. 03

Rod the duct end to end

Not the first three feet. The run through a ceiling or a long wall is where it packs.

  4. 04

    Clear the wall hood

The flap corrodes half open and lint builds behind it. This is the commonest blockage on this coast.

  5. 05

    Measure the airflow afterwards

At the hood, with the machine running, so the improvement is verified rather than claimed.

    LG dryer repair in Miami

Sixty-eight dryers in the catalog, in three quite different kinds: vented electric, vented gas, and the ventless heat pump machines that condense the water into a drawer instead of pushing it outside. That last group changes what a repair is — there is no duct to blame, and the two things that fail are the condenser block and the drain the water leaves by. LG publishes codes for all of it, including the thermistor set tE1 to tE6 and the drn/OE pair that only exists on a machine with a water container.

    • Vented electric, vented gas, and ventless heat pump machines
    • tE1–tE6 thermistors, nP at the heater, drn/OE on the condensate drain
    • On vented machines the duct is the first suspect and usually the answer

About LG dryer vent cleaning

Go outside and watch the flap while it runs

That is the whole home test. Start the dryer, walk out to where the duct comes through the wall or the roof, and hold a hand near the hood: there should be a strong warm push and the flap should stand open. A lazy trickle, a flap that lifts halfway, or a hood you cannot find at all tells you more than anything visible from the laundry closet. While you are out there, look for lint on the outside of the wall, which means a run that has been packed for a long time. Inside, the giveaway is a load that needs two cycles and a machine hot to the touch on its top panel.

Questions about LG dryer vent cleaning

The duct behind my machine is the flexible foil kind. Does that matter?

It matters a great deal. Foil sags, crushes behind the machine and holds lint in every ridge, and rigid metal is what the manufacturer asks for. We will tell you what is back there and what changing it involves.

How often in this climate?

Once a year for most households and twice where the run is long, goes up through a ceiling, or serves a family doing daily loads. The air here is wet, and wet lint packs tighter than dry lint does.
