LG dryer heating element replacement

A dryer that tumbles cold. The element is a coil in a metal can at the back of the cabinet, and it is replaced together with the thermal cutoff and the thermostats — because a cutoff that has opened did so for a reason, and the reason is nearly always restricted air.

On the visit

How this visit actually goes

The same order every time, so nothing is opened and nothing is charged before you have seen the figure and said yes.

  1. 01

    Check the supply

Half a tripped double breaker gives a machine that tumbles cold and looks perfectly alive.

  2. 02

Measure the element and the cutoff

Both fail open and both produce the same symptom.

  3. 03

Find out why the cutoff opened

A blocked duct. Fitting a new cutoff and leaving the duct means doing this again in months.

  4. 04

    Replace the set

Element, cutoff and thermostats together. Piecemeal is a second visit.

  5. 05

    Verify the exhaust temperature

Measured at the machine, with the duct connected.

    LG dryer repair in Miami

Sixty-eight dryers in the catalog, in three quite different kinds: vented electric, vented gas, and the ventless heat pump machines that condense the water into a drawer instead of pushing it outside. That last group changes what a repair is — there is no duct to blame, and the two things that fail are the condenser block and the drain the water leaves by. LG publishes codes for all of it, including the thermistor set tE1 to tE6 and the drn/OE pair that only exists on a machine with a water container.

    • Vented electric, vented gas, and ventless heat pump machines
    • tE1–tE6 thermistors, nP at the heater, drn/OE on the condensate drain
    • On vented machines the duct is the first suspect and usually the answer

About LG dryer heating element replacement

Two breakers, one dryer, and half of these calls

An electric dryer runs on two legs of 240 volts and uses only one of them for the drum motor. Lose the other and you get a machine that starts, tumbles and runs a whole cycle stone cold, which is why the first thing to do is switch the dryer's breaker fully off and fully on again, both halves together, and try one more load. A double breaker that has tripped on one side imitates a burnt element exactly and costs nothing to rule out. If it still tumbles cold after that, the element and the safety parts around it are replaced together, because the cutoff opened for a reason.

Questions about LG dryer heating element replacement

It heats but everything is still damp.

That is airflow rather than heat, so it is the duct and the lint path rather than this repair. A dryer with no way out for the moisture will heat all afternoon and dry nothing.

Why replace parts that are not broken?

Because the thermal cutoff and the thermostats are inexpensive, they have aged in the same heat, and coming back in three months to fit one of them costs you another visit. It is the one place on this site where we fit more than strictly failed, and we will show you the old parts.
