LG range hoods
LG's dedicated hoods are the wall-mount chimney units, and alongside them a great many LG kitchens in this city are ventilated by an over-the-range microwave doing the same job. The failures are shared and so is the misunderstanding behind most of the calls: a hood that seems not to work is very often a hood that is recirculating exactly as it was installed to, through a filter that has not been changed since it was.

What goes wrong with it
Symptoms we are called out to on LG range hoods
Each one covers the likely causes in the order they are worth checking, and what to do in five minutes before booking anything.
-
It runs and the kitchen still fills with steam Range hood not extracting
Before anything is called a failure, one question decides most of these: is the hood ducted to the outside, or is it recirculating through a filter back into the room? A recirculating hood was never going to remove steam. It removes grease and smell, and it does that only while its charcoal filter is fresh.
- Ducted or recirculating decides what 'working' even means
- Filters are maintenance and are the most common cause
- The vent flap outside seizes and packs solid, and nobody looks at it

-
from $95 Diagnostic visit
One visit, one technician, one answer in writing. On this make the diagnostic starts with something most makes cannot offer: the appliance usually has something to say. LG publishes code lists for its refrigerators, dishwashers, washers, dryers and ranges, and on the machines with no display it publishes what the blinking lights mean instead. Reading that properly is half the job and it costs nothing to do.
- The model number and whatever the appliance is reporting, read before anything is opened
- Blinking-light patterns included, because LG documents them and that makes them codes
- Written findings and a from-price before any part is ordered
-
from $125 Appliance maintenance
The visit that stops the other visits. Most of what fails on an LG in this city fails because of something that could have been cleaned: a condenser packed with dust, a dishwasher filter nobody has taken out, a dryer duct that has been closing for three years. None of it is glamorous and all of it is cheaper than the repair it prevents.
- Condenser, filters, seals, drains and levels on whatever you have
- Written findings, so you know what is aging before it fails
- Priced on time rather than per appliance
-
from $145 Appliance installation
Delivery is not installation. A machine that has been put in place is level, connected, tested, and standing with the clearances its manufacturer specifies — and on LG's ventless laundry and its built-in cooking there are specifics that get missed often enough to be worth naming.
- Leveled and tested, not just connected and left
- Clearances checked, because a built-in with no vent path fails in August
- Gas connections leak-tested and documented
-
from $155 Over the range microwave vent service
An over-the-range microwave is two appliances in one housing, and half the complaints about them are ventilation rather than cooking. Blower, damper, charcoal filter and the duct above the machine — and the first question is whether it was ever ducted outside at all.
- Ducted or recirculating decides what working even means
- The damper flap above the machine seizes and nobody looks at it
- Charcoal filters are replaced, not washed
-
from $165 Range hood repair
LG publishes no error codes for its hoods, so this is diagnosis rather than translation. A hood is a motor, a capacitor, a switch, two lamps and a duct — and the commonest call about one turns out to be a recirculating installation working exactly as designed with a filter nobody has changed.
- No published codes on this appliance — it is all measurement
- Filters first, damper second, motor third
- Lights working and fan not is a useful split: power is arriving
-
from $285 Appliance control board repair
The board is the last thing suspected rather than the first, because supply problems imitate it perfectly: a long extension lead, a shared circuit with something heavy on it, or a socket with a poor neutral will all produce board errors on a machine that is otherwise healthy. A second board fails exactly the way the first one did.
- The supply is checked first, every time
- EE on a washer and F11 on a range are board-level codes
- A board replaced without finding what killed it is a repeat visit
-
from $115 Smart diagnosis and firmware service
LG builds diagnostics into these machines that most makes do not: a connected app, a stored history, and on many models an audible diagnosis the machine plays down a phone line. When that side stops working the appliance still washes and still cools — but you lose the reporting, and on this make the reporting is worth having.
- Connectivity, firmware and the app-side diagnosis
- The machine works without it; you lose the instrumentation
- Often a network problem rather than an appliance one

About LG range hoods
Two appliances doing one job
LG makes wall-mount chimney hoods, and it makes over-the-range microwaves that ventilate the cooktop underneath them. In a Miami kitchen the second is far more common than the first, and the two are serviced the same way: filters, damper, blower, control.
Ducted or recirculating, and why it is the first question
A ducted hood pushes air out of the building. A recirculating one pulls it through a charcoal filter and returns it to the room. Both are legitimate installations and only one of them removes steam. A great many complaints about a hood that does not work turn out to be a recirculating installation working exactly as designed, with a charcoal filter that has been in place since the kitchen was built.

Questions about LG range hoods
It runs but the kitchen still fills with smoke.
Three things, in this order. Is it ducted or recirculating — because a recirculating hood was never going to take steam out of the room, only grease out of the air. Are the filters loaded — baffle filters go in the dishwasher, charcoal ones get replaced. And is the duct clear where it leaves the building, because the exterior flap seizes and everything behind it packs solid. Only after those is it the blower.
The lights work and the fan does not.
Useful, because it separates the switch from the supply: power is arriving. That leaves the blower motor, its capacitor, or the control that drives it. A motor that hums and does not turn is usually a capacitor or a seized bearing, and both are parts rather than a new hood. A motor that is silent is the control or the motor itself.
How often do the filters actually need doing?
Baffle filters every month or two in a kitchen that cooks, and they go through the dishwasher on their own. Charcoal filters on a recirculating hood every six months or so, and they cannot be washed — they are replaced. Nothing else on this appliance rewards attention as cheaply, and a loaded filter is what makes a working hood feel broken.
