Error code
Dishwasher error code AE
LG dishwasher error code AE: LG groups leakage and overfilling under one condition because the machine answers both the same way: it stops washing and it starts draining, and it keeps draining until somebody comes. Every spelling LG publishes for it, which machines can raise it, and what to do next.

What we can confirm
Code AE, from the manufacturer's own documentation
A code is only meaningful together with the machine showing it — the same digits mean different things on different equipment.
The code
AE
LG groups leakage and overfilling under one condition because the machine answers both the same way: it stops washing and it starts draining, and it keeps draining until somebody comes. That is deliberate, and it is why a dishwasher showing this code sounds like it is running when it is not. The causes divide neatly. Too much water is a fill valve that is not closing or a level sensor that has lost its reading. Water underneath is a hose, a pump seal or the tub. And a third cause catches people out entirely: ordinary washing-up liquid instead of dishwasher detergent produces enough foam to trip the same sensor, with nothing broken at all.

What it narrows down to
The machine has found water where it should not be, and is protecting the floor

What else belongs to the dishwashers
On this make a code belongs to the appliance rather than to a product line. These are the other conditions this machine can display, and the models that can show this one — a display often has more than one thing to say, and the model number decides what any of it costs to put right.
Other codes this appliance can display
Not enough water is arriving, or it is arriving too slowly
The water that went in has not come out
The machine cannot tell how hot the water is
The water is not getting hot, or is getting hot in the wrong way
The motor that drives the spray arms is overloaded or stalled
The machine cannot agree with itself about how much water is in the tub
There is far more foam in the tub than the machine can wash through
The pump that switches the water between the spray levels is not responding
Not an error — the panel has been locked
The fan in the drying system has stopped
The drying system cannot reach or hold its temperature
The door that should open itself at the end of the cycle has not

About Dishwasher error code AE
What AE means on this make
LG groups leakage and overfilling under one condition because the machine answers both the same way: it stops washing and it starts draining, and it keeps draining until somebody comes. That is deliberate, and it is why a dishwasher showing this code sounds like it is running when it is not. The causes divide neatly. Too much water is a fill valve that is not closing or a level sensor that has lost its reading. Water underneath is a hose, a pump seal or the tub. The other ways LG prints this one
AE · EI · FE · RE · AE/EI/FE
LG publishes a condition and then every string that can stand for it, and which one your machine shows depends on the panel it was built with — OE, E03 and E21 are one condition on a washer, and Er dS, F dS and r dS are one sensor on different evaporators. They are one page here, so whichever of them you searched for, this is the right page.
Where this appears, and why not to clear it
On the appliance's own display. LG reports errors two ways: machines with a digital display show a code, and the laundry machines without one blink their indicator lights instead. Both are published by the maker and both are on this site. Photograph what the panel shows before cutting the power. On a refrigerator you can also force the last code back onto the display by holding Freezer Temperature and Express Frz together for three seconds — LG documents that, and it is the one thing that makes a first visit more useful. A code that has been reset is information a technician no longer has.
What to do about it
- Ask what went in the machine. Hand dish soap in a dishwasher will do this every time.
- Look under the toe panel with a torch for standing water or a wet trail.
- Check the machine is level, and that the door closes squarely without being pushed.
- Leave it draining rather than switching it off at the wall — that cycle is the protection.
Where this goes next
The job this usually becomes is diagnostic visit, and that page carries a starting figure and the reasons that move it. If it turns out to be nothing — and on this make a real share of these are modes, reminders and settings rather than problems — the visit ends there and you pay the diagnostic and nothing else, or call (305) 419-0291 and describe what the panel is doing before booking anything.
