# LG washer will not spin

### Balanced, drained, or stuck

Open the door. If the drum is still full of water, this is a drain problem and the spin is a symptom — go to the drain page. If it is wet but empty, spread the load by hand around the drum, close the door and press start; a machine that then spins fine was unbalanced. If it will not spin even a single towel, that is mechanical and it needs a visit.

### What it usually means, by the kind of LG appliance

LG sells one appliance in several forms — five shapes of washer, three kinds of dryer, four fuels of range — and the same behavior points at different things on each of them. A built-in side-by-side and an integrated column are not the same service situation, and a dual-fuel range and an induction range fail in different halves.

- **Front load** — Suspension dampers soften with age and a machine that has moved house is often the one that starts doing this.
- **Top load** — The clutch between motor and basket is the part that is not in a front loader, and E6 is its code.
- **WashTower** — Check the whole unit is level, not just the washer. The stack amplifies any rock at the base.

### Why the machine gives up rather than trying harder

A drum full of wet laundry spinning at over a thousand revolutions a minute stores a great deal of energy, and an unbalanced one will walk across a room and destroy its own bearings. So the washer measures balance before it commits, tries three times to correct it by adding water and redistributing, and then stops and tells you. That is the machine protecting itself and your floor, and it is worth reading UE as good behavior rather than a breakdown.

### When it is not the load

If a single towel will not spin, nothing about balance is involved. That is the motor, the drive, the clutch on a top loader, or something physically jammed between the drum and the outer tub — and the last of those announces itself with a scraping sound when you turn the drum by hand. Underwires from bras are the single most common foreign object we take out of a washing machine.

An unbalanced load

UE. One heavy item, a load too small to spread, or a mixed load of jeans and shirts.

A machine that is not level

A tile lip, a foot that has wound out, or a pedestal that has loosened. The machine cannot balance what it cannot stand on.

Water still in the drum

It will not spin water. The problem is the drain and this is the visible half of it.

A stalled motor or a jammed drum

LE. An underwire between drum and tub is the classic version and it is audible.

The clutch, on a top loader

E6. The wash completes and the spin does not.

Look at whether there is water left

It decides which page you are on and it takes one second.

Redistribute and try again

By hand, evenly round the drum. A machine that then spins was never broken.

Push each corner of the machine

Any rock at all means it is not level, and leveling is free.

Turn the empty drum by hand

It should turn smoothly with a little resistance. Grinding or a hard stop means something is between drum and tub.

The load comes out soaked

What it usually means

UE means the machine tried three times to balance the load before telling you

A machine that will not spin any load is a different call from one that will not spin some

Water still in the drum means it is a drain problem wearing a spin problem's clothes

### It spins slowly but not fast.

That is often the vibration sensor rather than the drive. The machine will not authorize a high spin without a reading it trusts, so it holds itself at a low speed. LG codes that family as vS or uS, and the first thing to rule out is whether the machine is level.

### It has started walking across the floor.

Stop using it on high spin until it is looked at. A machine that moves is either not level, standing on a floor that flexes, or has lost its suspension damping — and each spin makes the last of those worse.
