# LG smart diagnosis and firmware service

### It is usually the router, and it is usually the band

Two things account for most of these. The appliance joins a 2.4 GHz network and not a 5 GHz one, so a new router presenting both under a single name will drop a machine that had worked for years until the bands are separated or the guest network is used. And a laundry closet with a metal door in the middle of a concrete building is a hard place to reach: the machine is not being difficult, it genuinely has no signal there. Both are worth trying before you book. What is worth keeping either way is the audible diagnosis, which works over a phone with no network at all.

What this involves

Connectivity, firmware and the app-side diagnosis

The machine works without it; you lose the instrumentation

Often a network problem rather than an appliance one

Establish what is actually broken

The appliance, the app, or the network between them. They are three different problems.

Check the network

A 2.4 GHz band, a router that has been replaced, or a password changed six months ago explains most of these.

Update the firmware

Where an update exists, and after checking what it changes.

Re-pair the machine

Properly, rather than repeatedly.

Run the diagnosis end to end

So the feature is demonstrated working rather than declared fixed.

### Does the appliance stop working without it?

No. Everything mechanical behaves exactly the same. What you lose is the reporting and the stored history, and on this make that reporting is unusually good, which is the only reason we treat it as a job at all.

### It says an update is available and then stops partway.

Almost always signal. An update needs a steady connection for several minutes and a machine at the edge of range drops it halfway. Moving the router, or standing a phone hotspot beside the machine for ten minutes, resolves most of them.
