### The freezer tells you which half of the problem you have

Open the freezer before you call. If it is still hard frozen while the fresh food side is warm, air is not getting from one compartment to the other, and that is the cheaper end of this repair — a fan, a duct packed with ice, a damper that has stopped opening. If both sides are drifting up together, the cold itself is not being made, and that is a different afternoon. Two things cost nothing to rule out first: a cabinet left in demo mode, which LG shows as OFF and which cools nothing at all, and a door held ajar overnight by a bin or a bottle in a room at eighty percent humidity.

Rule out the free answers

Demo mode, a packed compartment, a door not sealing, a condenser buried in dust. Between them these account for a real share of the calls.

Read the machine's own report

CF, FF, rF, FS, dS and the internal-system group all mean different things and LG names each of them.

Measure both compartments

A thermometer in each for an hour. Which one is warm, and by how much, decides everything.

Work the air path

Fans, ducts, damper and evaporator. Most of what is wrong lives here and none of it needs refrigerant.

Only then the sealed system

Gauges on the machine, and the compressor warranty position established before any figure is given.

### How long should I give it after closing a door that was left open?

A full day with the doors shut and the load reduced. A cabinet that has been open all night is also fighting the moisture it took in, and it will look worse before it looks better.

### Should I empty the freezer before you come?

It helps if we have told you the back panel is coming off, because that compartment has to be empty and thawed before anything behind it can be reached. We will say so when we book rather than surprise you with it on the day.
