# LG evaporator fan repair

### What a fan in trouble sounds like from the kitchen

A blade hitting ice is a rhythmic ticking or a scraping that changes the moment you open the door, because on most of these cabinets the freezer fan is meant to stop when the door is opened. A bearing on its way out is a steadier hum that grows over weeks. Neither is the interesting part of this repair. LG watches its fans and reports them, so a motor is easy to condemn — but the blade was usually stopped by frost that had somewhere to come from, and a new motor fitted into the same frost is a second visit. The fan is replaced and the reason for the ice is found on the same trip.

What this involves

Three fans, three codes, three different access routes

Ice is the cause more often than the motor, and that changes the repair

The compartment has to be emptied and often thawed first

Identify which fan

CF, FF and rF are not the same part and are not in the same place.

Look for the reason it stopped

A blade jammed in frost is a defrost problem wearing a fan problem's code, and replacing the fan alone means doing it again.

Clear and test

The blade turned by hand, the motor measured, the shroud checked for the rub that started it.

Replace what has actually failed

Motor, blade or both. A blade cracked by ice will sound like a bearing.

Confirm airflow at the vents

A strip of tissue at the compartment vent, not a hand near the fan.

### The noise goes away when I open the door. Is that a good sign?

It tells us which fan we are listening to, which is genuinely useful. Try it on both compartments and tell us which one changed when you booked.

### Can I unplug the fan and keep using it until you come?

Please do not. With no air moving, the cold stays in one place and the food in the other, and the compressor runs continuously trying to fix something it cannot reach.
