# LG dryer moisture sensor service

### A cotton ball and rubbing alcohol, twice a year

The two metal strips sit just inside the drum opening, low down and a few inches apart, and you can find them with a finger. Unplug the machine, wipe them with rubbing alcohol on a cotton ball until it stops coming away gray, and let them dry. That is the whole maintenance, and it is worth doing every six months in a house that uses dryer sheets, because the film they leave is what makes a machine read a soaking load as finished and shut down after eight minutes. Until you get to it, a timed cycle will dry your clothes; the sensor cycles are the ones that will not.

Clean the strips

A connector that has vibrated loose gives the same reading.

Where cleaning has not fixed it.

Advise on softener

Liquid softener and dryer sheets are what film these. Worth saying rather than replacing the part twice.

Then the strips are being read wrongly rather than being covered, and that is the wiring or the control behind them. It is still the cheapest laundry repair on this site.

### Should I stop using dryer sheets?

You do not have to, but they are the cause here and they coat the lint screen as well. Hold the screen under a running tap: if the water beads instead of passing straight through, that is the same film.
