# LG dishwasher leak repair

### Stop the cabinet damage first, then find the source

Water from a dishwasher rarely appears where it comes from. It runs along the underside of the tub, drops at the lowest corner, and travels under the cabinet base toward the room, which is why the first thing you see is a dark line at the toe kick or a soft patch of floor two feet away. Stop using the machine and get air under there, because the cabinet is what turns a small repair into an expensive room. Then tell us when it leaks: only during the wash, only on the drain, or a puddle that arrives overnight with nothing running. Those are three different repairs.

What this involves

Door, hose, sump or tub, and they are not the same job

AE, EI and FE are LG's leak and overfill codes

A tub that has failed is a conversation rather than a repair

Find the water

Dry everything, run a cycle, and watch with a torch. A leak diagnosed from a dry machine is a guess.

Check the door and its boot

The commonest source and the cheapest to put right.

Check the level and the door alignment

LG names both as causes of its overfill code, and neither needs a part.

Look for the third cause: detergent

Hand dish soap produces enough foam to trip the leak sensor with nothing broken.

Be straight about a failed tub

It is not economically repairable, and we will say so rather than sell a repair around it.

### I used regular dish soap once. Could that be it?

Very likely, and it is not a repair at all. A tub full of foam pushes water past a door seal that is in perfect condition. Run two or three rinse cycles with a splash of white vinegar and it will settle down.

### Is a leaking dishwasher ever not worth repairing?

When it is the tub itself, which splits at a seam and cannot be sealed reliably. That is the one we will tell you to replace rather than quote around.
