# LG dishwasher heater repair

### Run the kitchen tap hot before you start a cycle

A dishwasher does not heat a tub full of water from cold in the time it allows itself. It takes what the pipe gives it and lifts it the rest of the way. In a home where the kitchen sink is a long run from the water heater, the machine's first fill is whatever was standing in that pipe, which in an air-conditioned condominium can be genuinely cool. Run the tap until it is hot, start the cycle then, and give it two or three loads before you judge it. If the glasses are still filmed and the machine reports HE, the element inside the tub is being asked about instead.

What this involves

HE is the code and it explains poor cleaning as well as poor drying

The incoming water temperature is checked before the element is blamed

The element is inside the tub

Measure the incoming water

A machine fed cold works far harder, and thirty seconds of running the hot tap changes the result.

Confirm the element rather than the sensor

HE and tE look alike from the kitchen and are different parts.

Replace with the seal

The element passes through the tub. The gasket is part of the job.

Check the thermostat and control

An element that failed because it was asked to run dry has a reason behind it.

Verify the temperature over a cycle

Measured at the machine, not assumed from the program name.

### How hot should the water actually be?

Around 120 degrees at the tap is the usual target and it is worth measuring rather than guessing. A water heater turned down for safety with small children in the house is a legitimate reason for a machine to clean poorly, and no repair will change that.

### Is a heated dry cycle bad for plastics?

It warps the light ones over time, which is why the top rack is where they belong. If everything comes out wet and the wash itself is fine, that is the drying system rather than this repair.
