# LG dishwasher door latch repair

### Two things that imitate a broken latch

Before the inner panel comes off, two possibilities get ruled out because neither is a repair. The first is the control lock: these dishwashers lock their panel from two buttons held together, the display shows CL, and a machine in that state closes beautifully and refuses to start. The second is the room. A machine that has had flooring laid up to it, or a custom panel added to the front, can end up sitting a fraction of an inch proud of where it used to, and a door that no longer quite reaches its strike is not a latch problem however much it behaves like one.

What this involves

A machine that will not start is often the latch rather than the control

The inner door panel comes off; the machine stays in place

A door that has dropped presents a good latch to a moved frame

Confirm the latch rather than the panel

A dead control panel and a latch that is not reporting look identical from outside.

Check the door alignment first

A hinge that has worn moves the strike, and no new latch will fix that.

Replace the switch

Behind the inner panel, with the insulation folded back.

Test the interlock chain

The machine should refuse to run with the door ajar afterwards. That is the point of it.

Run a full cycle

Latches fail warm as well as cold.

### The door closes but the machine beeps and stops.

That is the switch inside the latch rather than the catch itself: the door is shut and the machine cannot prove it. Small part, contained job, and the machine stays where it is.

### Can I just push the door harder?

It works for a while, and it is how a good latch becomes a broken strike and occasionally a cracked inner panel. If the door needs a shove, something has moved.
