# LG cooktop element repair

### A cracked top is a different conversation from a dead ring

If the glass itself is cracked, chipped through, or has had a spill boil into the crack, stop using the cooktop and switch it off at the breaker. There are live parts a short way under that surface and water reaches them through a crack. That is a glass replacement rather than an element repair, and on some models the arithmetic favors a new appliance. A ring that has simply stopped with the surface intact is the ordinary version: the element under the glass has failed open, and the connector beneath it usually needs replacing with it. The hot surface indicator keeps warning you throughout, and it is right to.

What this involves

Elements fail open and are measured, not guessed

The connector under the element is half the repair

F3 and the water-on-the-panel condition are controls rather than elements

Confirm it is the element

A zone that acknowledges the touch and does not heat is different from one that does nothing.

Lift the glass and measure

Element and connector both.

Replace the connector where it has burnt

It is cheap and it is the reason repairs repeat.

Check the touch control

F3 is a touch pad sensor key error and it is not an element problem at all.

Test every zone before closing

Not just the one that was reported.

### One ring glows dimly and takes forever.

That is a partly failed element, or a connector that has burnt and is no longer making full contact. Both get replaced together, because a new element onto a damaged connector fails early.

### The hot surface indicator stays on when everything is cold.

Worth reporting rather than living with, because it is the warning the household relies on. It is usually the sensing rather than the elements, and it does not stop you using the cooktop in the meantime.
