# LG appliance maintenance

### When to book it, and what to keep doing between visits

May is the sensible month here, before the machines spend a summer working against a hot kitchen and a hotter garage. Between visits there are four things worth doing yourself: rinse the dishwasher filter monthly, empty the pump filter behind the little door at the bottom of the washer, run the tub clean cycle when the machine asks for it with tcL instead of dismissing it, and pull the dryer lint screen every load. On a heat pump dryer add the second filter and the condenser block, which owners are rarely shown at delivery. Everything harder than that — the coils at the back, the duct run, the door seals — is what the visit is for.

What this involves

Condenser, filters, seals, drains and levels on whatever you have

Written findings, so you know what is aging before it fails

Priced on time rather than per appliance

Condenser coil and machine-room fan cleaned, door seals checked with a paper test, defrost drain cleared, temperatures measured in both compartments rather than read off the panel.

Filter cylinder and mesh out and cleaned, spray arms cleared and spun, door seal checked, and the water temperature at the machine measured.

Drain pump filter opened and cleaned, hoses checked for kinks and age, the boot gasket fold cleaned, the machine leveled, and on a vented dryer the duct and the wall hood.

Burner caps and ports cleared on gas, oven door seal and hinge checked, temperature verified against a probe rather than the display.

A written note of what is aging

Hoses, gaskets and igniters give warning. The point of the visit is to tell you which one is next rather than to leave everything looking clean.

### How often, honestly?

Once a year for a household of two, twice for a busy family or a home with pets, because hair is what closes a condenser here. Laundry running several loads a day is a duct conversation more often than that.

### Can I book it for one appliance only?

Yes, and the dryer duct is the one to pick if you are only picking one. It is the item where neglect is a safety matter rather than a performance one.
