# LG appliance control board repair

### The five-minute unplug, and the storm season behind it

Before a board is discussed the machine gets a proper reset: unplugged, or switched off at the breaker, for five full minutes rather than the ten seconds most people give it, so the control genuinely loses its memory instead of dozing. That alone clears a fair number of what look like dead panels, particularly after a summer afternoon when the power dipped instead of going out. If the same behavior returns within days, the question stops being the board and becomes what the board is being fed: a shared circuit, an extension lead, a loose neutral, or a surge that arrives with every storm.

What this involves

The supply is checked first, every time

EE on a washer and F11 on a range are board-level codes

A board replaced without finding what killed it is a repeat visit

Check the supply properly

Straight into a wall socket, voltage measured, and what else is on that circuit.

Confirm the board rather than a sensor

Most codes that look like a board are a part reporting to it.

Inspect the harness and connectors

Corrosion and heat damage at a connector is far more common than a failed board.

Replace and configure

Many boards need to be told which model they are in before the machine behaves.

Test every function

Not just the one that failed.

### Is a surge protector worth it on an appliance?

On anything with a control board and a compressor, yes, and it is cheap next to a board. Protection at the panel is better still if you are already having electrical work done.

### You replaced a board and it failed again.

Then the first one was a symptom, and finding the cause is part of the job rather than an extra. That is why the supply gets measured on the same visit, and why we would rather do that than sell you a second board.
