# Repair cost archive

## What it costs, and what makes it cost that.

Every figure on this site is a starting point rather than a quote, and every one has a page saying what moves it. LG's volume is the single biggest reason these numbers sit where they do: a drain pump, an inlet valve or a bake element for one is stocked at every supply house in Miami-Dade.

46 — jobs with a published figure

from $95 — diagnostic, credited to the repair

Every one — is a from, never a final price

3 — counties covered

## Where each one starts

A floor, not a quote. Each page says what puts your job at the bottom or the top of its band.

No cost pages are published yet.

## Volume, and a supply house that has the part

LG is one of the two highest-volume appliance makes on this fleet, and that is the single biggest downward pressure on these figures. A drain pump, a door boot, an inlet valve, a bake element or an igniter is a stocked item rather than an order, and many of them fit dozens of model numbers. It is also why a common failure is one visit rather than two — the part is on the van or twenty minutes away, not five days out.

## Where we will say so

A countertop microwave with a failed magnetron. A dishwasher whose tub has gone. A fifteen-year-old cabinet facing a sealed system and a control board in the same visit. In each of those the parts and the labor approach what a new machine costs, and we would rather say so before the work than present it afterwards. The opposite is also true and is said just as plainly: a built-in microwave, a wall oven or a ventless dryer is almost always worth repairing, because most of what you paid for is the installation.

## What makes a quote accurate

The model number, off the appliance

- Refrigerators: inside, on the left wall of the fresh food compartment.
- Washers and dryers: inside the door opening, or on the back panel.
- Ranges and wall ovens: on the frame behind the door, or under the cooktop.
- Dishwashers: on the edge of the door, visible when it is open.

What the machine is reporting

- A code on the display, written down exactly — including the letter in front of it.
- On a refrigerator, hold Freezer Temperature and Express Frz together for three seconds to bring the last code back.
- On a laundry machine with no numbers, count a full blink sequence and photograph it.
- Do not cut the power first. A code that has been reset is information nobody has.

## What each job involves

Each cost page is paired with the service it belongs to, so the figure and the work are never two different lists.

## No final price is published anywhere on this site

Every figure here is a **from**. The exact cost is confirmed on site after the diagnostic and agreed in writing before anything is opened, ordered or charged. Anyone who quotes a repair over the phone without measuring is guessing with extra confidence, and it is usually the customer who pays for the confidence.

## Questions about price

Where do these figures come from? — They are researched market bands for South Florida — what the same part and the same labor go for here, narrowed by what the part actually is on this equipment. They are not averages of our invoices and they are not quotes.

Is the diagnostic charged on top? — It pays for the diagnosis, which is real work. If you go ahead with the repair it comes off the bill, so you pay it once either way.

Does the LG compressor warranty change the number? — Considerably, and it is worth checking before anybody quotes. LG's linear compressors carry a long parts warranty that follows the machine rather than the owner, so a cabinet bought used can still be covered. What it does not cover is the labor, the gas or the drier — which is why a covered machine still has a real number on it, just a much smaller one.

Why is the same repair a different price on a wall oven? — Access. A wall oven is screwed into joinery, carries its weight on a cabinet built around it, and has to be drawn out on a stand before its back is reachable. The electrical work is identical; the time is not.

## How to read a figure on this site

### Every number is a floor

The band exists because the same job is not the same work on two machines. What the part is, where it sits, whether the appliance is built in, and what it has done to itself while the problem was ignored all move it. Each cost page names the three things that move that particular job, which is a more useful thing to publish than an average.

### What is not in the number

Nothing is opened, ordered or charged before you have agreed to it in writing. If a second problem turns up while the machine is open, it is quoted rather than done — and a job that turns out to be free, which happens more often on this make than most, is a diagnostic and nothing more.

## Tell us the model and what it is doing.

On this make that is usually enough for a useful range before anybody sets off, because the appliance has normally already said something.
