# LG washers

### Five shapes, and they do not share a code list

LG publishes separate error code lists for its front load washers, its top load washers, the WashTower and the SideKick pedestal, and the differences are real rather than editorial: dE1, dE2 and dE3 on a SideKick are the drawer, its lock and its lid, while dE on a front loader is the main door. E7 on a SideKick means it has been installed under something it should not be under. Writing down which machine the code came from is half the diagnosis.

### The machines with no display

Some top loaders report by blinking their cycle lights instead of showing a code, and LG publishes what the combinations mean. Those pages are on this site as well, because a person standing in front of a machine that is flashing at them has no code to search for and needs the pattern read back to them.

The machines with no display

Those pages are on this site as well, because a person standing in front of a machine that is flashing at them has no code to search for and needs the pattern read back to them.

### It fills, washes, and then sits there full of water.

OE, and on the newer machines it arrives as E03 or E21 as well. LG's own sequence is the right one: look behind the machine for a kinked or blocked drain hose, then clean the drain pump filter behind the little door at the bottom right, then run a spin-only cycle and listen for the pump. A pump that hums and moves nothing is a blockage; a pump that is silent has failed. Both are a morning's work, and the filter costs nothing.

### UE keeps stopping the spin.

Unbalance, and it is worth knowing that the machine tries three times to fix it before it gives up and tells you. A single heavy item, a load too small to spread, or a machine that has crept off level on a tile floor all produce it. Spread the load by hand, close the door and press start. If it happens on every load including a fair one, the machine is genuinely out of level or the suspension has gone soft — and that one does not fix itself.

### The door will not unlock.

dE, dE1 or dE2 depending on the machine, and it is the interlock rather than the door. Power the machine off at the wall for five minutes, which discharges the board and releases most of them. If it comes back, the latch is worn or the door has dropped on its hinge, and either is a straightforward part. What is not worth doing is forcing it: the catch is plastic and the frame around it is not.

### There is a smell, and the clothes come out of a clean machine smelling of it.

Front loaders in this climate, almost always the boot gasket. Fold it back and look at the underside of the fold — that is where the water and the detergent sit. Wipe it, run a tub clean cycle, and leave the door ajar between washes. The machine will even ask for the cycle: tcL on the display is LG telling you it has counted enough loads to want one.
